Our Journey Through the Years

1926

A Parish is born

In March 1926, Greek families in Corona formally organized their parish. On Palm Sunday, April 25, 1926, the first Divine Liturgy was celebrated in a converted storefront. Later that year, a house on 38th Avenue was purchased and transformed into their church home.

1928-1957

Service and growth

The “Anagennisis” Philoptochos Society was established in 1928, beginning a lasting tradition of charitable service. As the parish grew in faith and numbers, the need for a larger sanctuary became clear.

1957

a new church for a new generation

In April 1957, the new Transfiguration of Christ Church was opened, becoming the spiritual center of the community. During these decades, parish ministries and educational programs expanded, strengthening Orthodox life in Corona.

2026

a century of faithful witness

One hundred years after its founding, the parish continues to move forward. From expanded ministries to the launch of a Spanish-speaking outreach, Transfiguration of Christ remains rooted in Christ and committed to serving future generations.

“At this historic juncture of 100 years, we offer hymns of thanksgiving and praise to Christ, who has guided this community from its beginning.”

Archimandrite Chrysostom Panos
Parish Priest
