Patronal Feast
The Feast of the Holy Transfiguration of Our Lord
A glimpse of Christ’s divine glory revealed to His disciples on Mount Tabor.

The Transfiguration of Christ
The event of the Transfiguration is recorded in three of the four Gospels: Matthew 17:1–9, Mark 9:2–8, and Luke 9:28–36.
Jesus took the Apostles Peter, James, and John with Him up upon a mountain. While they were there, He was transfigured before them—His face shining like the sun and His garments becoming radiant and white.
Moses and Elijah appeared with Christ, speaking with Him. Peter, overwhelmed by the moment, expressed his desire to build three tents—one for Christ, one for Moses, and one for Elijah. This moment reflects the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets in Christ.
While Peter was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came from the cloud saying,
“This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.”
The disciples fell on their faces in awe. Jesus came to them, telling them not to be afraid. When they looked up, they saw only Christ.
As they came down the mountain, Jesus instructed them not to speak of what they had seen until after His Resurrection
Celebrated on August 6
The Feast of the Transfiguration is celebrated each year on August 6.
It is one of the Great Feasts of the Orthodox Church, revealing Christ not only as teacher, but as the Son of God in divine glory.
On this day, the faithful are reminded of the call to spiritual transformation—
to be illumined by the light of Christ and grow in holiness.
Hymns of the Feast
Apolytikion (Grave Tone)
You were transfigured on the Mount, Christ God revealing Your glory to Your disciples, insofar as they could comprehend. Illuminate us sinners also with Your everlasting light, through the intercessions of the Theotokos. Giver of light, glory to You.
Kontakion (Grave Tone)
You were transfigured upon the mount, O Christ our God, and Your disciples, insofar as they could bear, beheld Your glory. Thus, when they see You crucified, they may understand Your voluntary passion, and proclaim to the world that You are truly the effulgence of the Father.
“Lord, it is good for us to be here.” (Matthew 17:4)
